The Strict Fixture of Mr Five Letters
In Esrevinu, a very large kingdom with several towns and villages, everybody was afraid of Mr. Five Letters. The fear of him made them uncomfortable. He was invulnerable to all of them even if they were to combine as an army against him. The thought of him had given both the poor and the rich restless minds. He neither had sympathy for the former nor respect for the latter.
The severity of his actions could deeply be felt to the extent that if they had known his residence, no security network would have been able to stop them from taking the risk of attacking him. Apart from being untraceable, no one could describe what he looked like. This was because, whoever had an encounter with him would become mute afterward.
However, it was so amazing that some people could incite him against their enemies. How they could conspire with him remained unexplainable. Then the question arose: ‘were such people safe from his torture’?
In fact, this question was what made the matter more unfathomable. But the truth remains that even such people were not exempted. Though he was ready to visit the targets whenever he was sent to them, but he would not hesitate to turn back at the sender if the initial target acted smarter. This means that his compliance with one depended heavily on their level of smartness and the complexity of their tactics.
When this became known to the populace, some of those with slobbish or no tactic would surrender to their enemies; while others would flee since the kingdom was very large. They would then settle in towns or villages where they could remain hidden from their enemies.
Subsequently, there came what seemed to be a relief. Some claimed that they could get people immune to repel Mr. Five, and most people started hastening to them for the immunization. They would then collect money in exchange for the fortification. These people were known as the Ojijis. Some poor people were really worried since they had nothing to offer for the service.
Posteriorly, it became clear that even the Ojijis were as vulnerable as every other person. This was because Mr. Five tortured them as well. So, they lost their prestige.
Despite all the happenings, there were people who never cared to seek any barricade because they believed that such could not help them. Surprisingly, some of such people would stay for several decades without receiving his torture. Notwithstanding, it does not mean he loved or liked their understanding; rather, he had his fixtures to which he was strictly adhered.
So, the life of a dreamer in Ogufo village depicted clearly how Mr. Five uses his fixtures. Ogufo was a village in Esrevinu and it was situated between two towns – Alamo and Agbado. The only hospital within the vicinity was located in Agbado.
The dreamer was known as Anona, and his dreams had always come to pass. He dreamt about the meetings of Mr. Five with other people, describing the time and places of their torture, and all happened exactly. Because of this, people would gather in his compound every morning to hear about themselves so as to get prepared.
One day, Anona dreamt that Mr. Five would torment him by 1:pm in Abgado. When he woke up, it was 3:am. He thought for a while on what to do, and he decided to travel to Alamo so that he would be far from Agbado at the fixed time. That was wise of him, right? Okay, maybe.
He set out for the journey, but on his way to Alamo, he had an accident which left him unconscious. He was then rushed to the hospital located in Agbado where they treated and allowed him to sleep for a while. He again had the same dream, and when he woke up and discovered that he was in Agbado, he tried to force himself out of the bed. Suddenly, he heard the clock ringing; and as he turned his face towards it, he saw Mr. Five pointing at the clock which was then showing ‘1:pm’. And that was the end of Anona’s life.
Who then is Mr. Five Letters? Death. Where is Esrevinu? We are in it, for it is the universe spelt backward. All the inhabitants of the universe are afraid of death, and it is inevitable. People incite death against others by the use of weapons, and the targets can dodge or fire back. Think of the Ojijis as the Juju men in our society. We can also clearly see how the cleverness of Anona failed to change the fixture of his departure. He still died.
